Week 9
Week 9:
Holaaaaaa!
This week was awesome!
First I jammed my finger playing football last pday so I haven't been able to use my left hand very well this week haha. Everyone said I should go to the doctor but I didn't think it was necessary. A little purple and green can't hurt right?
But we had a lot of new people that we met last Monday through little miracles. We knocked on a door that we thought was a less active member. No one answered and after 3 times, my comp and I decided to move on, so we were just outside the front door and looking for where we should go next and a young couple and their dog walked in front of us and stopped in front of the same door, and put their keys in it. So we talked with them and they have a lot of interest in the church and Samuel plays tennis! So we will see if I can coordinate a pday where we can play haha.
Two times this week I drank a full glass of tap water. Not good. The first time was after an hour and a half walk back from lunch we ran into one of our friends and he offered us water. We of course were desperate and he came out with a pitcher and two glasses. And i could just tell that pitcher was filled up from the faucet. Another time was in a member meal. Normally most families have Coca-Cola and lots of juice, so I just drink the juice. But this time they had Coca-Cola or Canada Dry. So I was already preparing myself to suck it up and drink the Canada Dry, but then one of the sons knew that I don't like carbonation, so he told his mom and they were like oh we have juice! So I was like ok sweet that's great. Until I realized that the mom had pulled out a packet of powder to make juice. And yes that juice was also made with tap water. And I would say that its all good and I'm surviving just fine, but I did wake up this morning super sick. So hopefully it was from something else, not the water. But, I have promised myself that from here on out I will always carry a full water bottle with me.
Ok we had a unplanned trip to the hospital this week haha. We had exchanges and my companion for the day, Hna Ribiero, had an allergic reaction to something we ate at lunch so we went to the hospital and didn't get home till 1 a.m. But the mission president and his wife said that we needed to get a full 8 hours of sleep so we got to sleep in until 9! Kinda fun because that never happens on the mission! At least I think haha. But Hna Ribiero is all good now. They injected some medication into her arm and she hasn't had any problems since!
My companion, Hna. Durkin, and I had an English class in the church on Friday so that was fun. Our friends wanted me to pray in English and it was super difficult. It felt like a brain exercise. So I guess that means that I have at least some progress in my Spanish!
This week is 18 de September, which is basically the 4th of July of Chile. So a lot of our friends are out of town, and yesterday the streets are empty, so I have a feeling that it is going to be difficult to find people to teach this week. Everyone is out traveling, spending time with their family, or drinking like crazy. But I know if we work hard we can still have success.
Scripture of the week:
2 Nephi 9:50
"Come, my brethren, every one that thirsted, come ye to the waters; and he that hath no money, come buy and eat; yea, come buy wine and milk without money and without price."
I love this scripture because there is no cost to feel the love of Christ. No matter where we are in our lives, what circumstances we've faced or circumstances we are currently facing, Christ will always feed us the best food without price. He is always there when we need comfort, peace, guidance, energy, or literally anything. And he does this because he loves us.
Have a great week!
God loves you!
