Week 37
This week was one of the craziest weeks I've ever lived.
We did a lot of service this week! We cleaned the patio of a members house and the front yard of a elementary school.
We are teaching right now a guy from Haiti called Mackenson. He speaks a little bit of spanish, but teaching him has been evidence of the gift of tongues. It is a miracle that he can understand us and we even found an audio recording of a missionary's testimony in creole of the book of Mormon. And we gave him a book of mormon in creole and is reading it! During our lesson he told us in really broken Spanish that there is only one doctrine of Christ and all the rest are false doctrine. It seems really harsh and he didn't even quite fully understand what he was saying, but it's true! There really is one true doctrine of Christ! And we don't have to fight over what it is because Jesus himself restored the true doctrine. For me his comment was super exciting because that meant he was starting to understand the significance of the restoration.
this week I had some personal reflexion time in one of my study times. And i realized I have a lot to improve on like we all do. I made a goal to pray specifically for charity, patience, and to be able to resist temptation. And every day that I prayed for these things, I saw a huge change in our day. We were happier together as a companionship, I was able to talk to people in the street more easily, we had the spirit with us strong in lessons, and I felt like the right words came to my mind super easily. The difference was clearly evident thank my past weeks. I love the power of prayer! It is amazing that if we really have the desire to develop a Christlike attribute and we pray for it and work towards it, we can little by little gain that attribute to be able to become more like Jesus Christ.
We went to Casablanca this week to have a little reunion with the sister missionaries of our zone. Casablanca is a little city and the only way to get there is to take the big coach buses that go to Santiago. So we got to go on a double decker coach bus! For me It was awesome to get to see the countryside of Chile and get to know another city!
One day this week we were walking out of las tomas (a hill where people just build houses where they want) and we started talking with this girl. And we ended up walking with her all the way to the end of las tomas to her house. And she let us enter her house, we met her husband and her little 1 year old, and taught them the plan of salvation. This lesson was super awesome because Tatiana, the mom, didn't know that we are going to live after this life with our same bodies and have the chance to live with God again. And you could see it in her that she was understanding. We visited them another day and taught them the restoration and gave them a book of mormon and they are super excited to read it and find out if it's true becuade they've never heard about it! They have a ton of faith. And they want to start coming to church when they don't have work! I have so much faith in them I can just see them dressed in white.
We had a sister's conference! It was so fun we had different activities that we did like yoga, self defense, nutrition, and the Priesthood. I learned so much about joy. The joy we receive when we work as hard and as diligently that we can. And if we are really working just to work, or if we are working because we love Jesus. A Frase my mission president always uses is, “me levanto por mis convenios” which basically means the reason that we get out of bed every morning is because we have made covenants with our loving heavenly father. And when we understand what those covenants mean, we want to get out of bed and we want to go outside because we love God and want to be faithful to him.
And to end my crazy week, on Saturday at 10pm we received news for this next transfer. But 30 minutes before, at 9:30 we got a call from the mission president. And he asked us if he could speak with me. And he told me that I am going to be an STL, or sister training leader. And then 30 minutes later we got the news and I'm going to Quillota! It's crazy that I was only here for one transfer, and I'm sad and happy to leave. Happy for new experiences and to get to know more people and get to be an STL, but also sad because I love my companion. And we only had one transfer together. I'm still processing in my head that I'm leaving, but I’ve heard amazing things about Quillota! I'm excited to keep working hard and learning new things everyday! I love being a missionary! I feel so blessed to get to see miracles everyday. And I know that you don't have to be a missionary to have miracles happen. Miracles are happening all around us. We just have to open our eyes to see them.
I love you!
God loves you!
